Electric cars - Questions of price and practicality.

Dear electric car makers.

There are a lot of electric cars on the road at the moment, and I've been looking at making our family second car an electric car. I can see that they are environmental and have some sound environmental and financial benefits. Before I buy though I need to know a few practical things. In the UK we have frosty mornings. The normal way of things allows us to run the car in the morning for a considerable amount of time to make the car warm enough to sit in, and to remove the ice from the windshield. We have a diesel which is dreadful on a frosty morning. It takes forever to warm up to the degree to which it will thaw the window. What happens in an electric car on a frosty day? Since there is no waste heat from an engine whilst static do I have to wait forever for a heater to warm up the windscreen? Do electric cars come with little heaters which warm the cars interior after charging has finished so that they are pleasant and ice free on the morning before the daily commute?

What happens if I run out of power on a trip? Do roadside assist folk have a charging capability where they can deliver a quantity of electricity to a flat electric car?

Why do electric cars not have solar panels on their roof panels and bonnets to recharge the car during the day? I know that charging points are turning up all over the place, but if electric cars become popular are these going to be enough?

Yours

A nervous potential customer.
